To be married at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, one or both persons of the engaged couple must be a practicing Catholic, and registered at a Catholic parish. Both parties must be free to marry in the Catholic Church. To be recognized as a Cathedral parishioner, you must be registered for a full calendar year at the Cathedral prior to scheduling a wedding and beginning Marriage Preparation.
Registered Cathedral parishioners may contact the Rector, Fr. Morgan, directly, at 605-336-7390. Cathedral parishioners may schedule a wedding up to two years out.
For Non-parishioners, their parish priest or a priest of their choice (for example, one who is directing their marriage preparation) must preside at the ceremony. The presiding priest must contact the Cathedral Rector to schedule a wedding date on behalf of the couple. Non-Cathedral parishioners may schedule a wedding one year before the desired date.
2:00, 3:00 or 4:00 PM Friday (Thursday Rehearsal Time negotiable)
1:00 PM Saturday with a Friday Rehearsal beginning between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM (depending on Friday weddings).
The Sacrament of Marriage is not celebrated during Lent, Holy Week, Solemnities or Feast Days of particular importance in the Cathedral calendar (St. Joseph the Worker, eg). Wedding dates during the Christmas season are variable due to timing and scheduling.
