All are welcome to the Cathedral of St. Joseph as a place to pray and celebrate. It is more than just a place for Catholics; it is a cherished symbol and a landmark for the region. The beauty of art, architecture, and music come together in an inspiring way in the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Through the generosity of many, the Cathedral has been undergoing a comprehensive restoration, including the main worship space completed in 2011. The next phase, called the “Inspires Campaign,” will provide a world-class organ, restored rectory, and endowments that will fund expanded programs for music and liturgy - lifting our hearts, souls and minds to experience the presence of God.
Sacred music and liturgy is at the heart of Catholic life. Through her music and Liturgy, the Cathedral of St Joseph, the Mother Church of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, provides the model for the faith communities of eastern South Dakota and beyond. A worthy pipe organ is central to that mission, providing a reliable and inspiring liturgical, teaching, and concert instrument that will serve the current needs of the Cathedral, and be there for generations to come. A worthy instrument is an architectural commitment to excellence in our Cathedral music program.
Our new organ, Opus 56 from the Montreal organ-building company Juget-Sinclair, is already under construction and will be installed in late 2025. Below are photos from the shop, and a complete stoplist (list of all the different kinds of pipes that will be part of the organ):
