The Arts
Designed by noted French artist and architect Emmanuel Masqueray, the Cathedral is a blend of Romanesque and French Renaissance architecture. It is recognized by the arts community as one of the true architectural treasures in the state. While the building itself is magnificent, the statuary, bas-relief elements, and windows contained within add to the artistic value of the Cathedral.
One of the most significant ways that the general public has encountered The Cathedral is through the annual celebration of the “Christmas at the Cathedral” concerts. A highlight of each Christmas season since 1997, “Christmas at the Cathedral” is an inspiring musical production that brings the community together to celebrate the Christmas story. It features the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the Cathedral choir, and noted regional and national soloists and actors.
